Protecting Manitoba's Endangered Animals

Indigenous people have a deep connection and reciprocal relationship with the animals of Turtle Island. Since time immemorial this is how we survived, moving along nomadically with herds of animals for food, clothing, regalia, homes, ceremonial artifacts, and tools. Many of these animals were killed in masses to destroy the livelihood of Indigenous peoples.

Some practices have been lost through generations of genocidal colonialism, but thankfully communities have held tightly onto these traditions, and they continue playing a significant role in the culture and well-being of Indigenous peoples today.
